When I was younger, the only time I’d see a date or eat dates was during Ramadhan to break my fast with. However, now I have tried to make dates apart of my daily diet.

Muslims are encouraged to break the fast with dates. There are a number of hadith and Qur’anic verses which illustrate the significance of dates.

The Prophet peace be upon him said, when one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates; but if he cannot get any, then (he should break his fast) with water, for water is purifying – Abu Dawud.

Boundless Benefits

From boosting your energy levels to taking care of your health, dates have multifaceted benefits to offer.

Rich Calcium Content – a handful of dates in your daily diet will be a great choice to stay away from bone problems (osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, etc.) and dental problems (tooth decay).

Heals Bowel Illnesses – The dietary fibre in dry dates is known to heal constipation effectively. They also act as laxatives and facilitate the movement of bowel within our body.

Excellent Anti-Oxidant – Several researches have shown that dry dates possess excellent anti-oxidative properties, which make our digestion smoother and keep our stomach healthy. Being full of essential amino acids as well as soluble and insoluble fibres, they increase the secretion of digestive juices and enhance the absorption of foodstuffs. Apart from these, dry dates are also beneficial in curing disorders like acidity, stomach ulcers, heart burn and colitis.

Improves Muscle Strength – Dates have significant effects on our heart muscles and are known to make our heart stronger. Pregnant women should consume dry dates regularly as they can strengthen uterus muscles and make the birth of the child easier.

Great Energy Booster – Dry dates consist of a huge amount of natural sugar (glucose and fructose), which eventually makes them a great energy booster. You can enhance your physical stamina to a greater extent with the help of these nourishing fruits.

Anemia: Dates have a high mineral content, which is beneficial for many different health conditions, but their impressive levels of iron make them a perfect dietary supplement for people suffering from anemia. The high level of iron balances out the inherent lack of iron in anemic patients, increasing energy and strength, while decreasing feelings of fatigue and sluggishness.

Abdominal Cancer: Research has pointed towards dates being a legitimate way to reduce the risk and impact of abdominal cancer. They work as a useful tonic for all age groups, and in some cases, they work better than traditional medicines, and are natural, so they don’t have any negative side effects on the human body.

Beauty Benefits

Dry dates are a natural resource of Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid. They are highly beneficial for skin cells as it can repair damage caused by free radicals. So, if you want to get firm and naturally beautiful skin, dry dates can be a good aid.

The Vitamin A content of dry dates is helpful to maintain the health of our skin. It can eliminate dry and dead skin cells, and regenerate fresh and new ones. Consequently, we get healthy, bright and glowing skin.

The anti-oxidative properties of dry dates are advantageous for our skin. As our skin gets rid of free radicals, it becomes firm and toned. Dry dates help us fight against untimely ageing and make us youthful.

Vitamin B5 present in dry dates is helpful in maintaining the health of our tresses. By including this superfood in your daily diet, you can prevent a number of hair problems like brittle hair, split ends and provide nourishment to hair roots as well as the scalp.

Some health specialists have said that eating one date day per day is necessary for a balanced and healthy diet.
